Most of us know him from Vikings, The Hunger Games and more recently from Heels. Alexander is making Country Music as delicious as you can hear anywhere in Nashville. With a self-titled EP already launched last year on BBR/BMG, Ludwig is really busy this summer with appearing in the new video for Nicki Minaj’s Super Freaky Girl and releasing his full-length Highway 99. Put your cowboy hat and dive into that sunset!
A lot of familiar feats that will shock you and bore you simultaneously. Thirteenth studio album and he starts his first two tracks with Drake, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, JAY-Z and John Legend, continuing with Kanye West and Eminem… Plus Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Future, SZA, Travis Scott, Juice Wrld. Meant to be so jam-packed that you can’t refuse. Ambitious, big production, Ross-style, brought to you by the likes of StreetRunner, Tarik Azzouz, TM88, Fridayy or even Dr. Dre, Timbaland and Khaled himself. The perfect recipe is here again, with this brief title that comes from a self-affirming mantra that he frequently uses: They didn’t believe in us, God did.
Queer, Atlanta-based vocalist/songwriter Izzy Spears came to delight us with a new scary sexy single. FIST is part of his future EP planned to be out on November 11th via KRO Records, an LA-based label founded by the album’s producer Yves Rothman and singer/songwriter Lawrence Rothman in 2019. The video finds the man in a Parisian hotel doing bad things and the song’s chorus fittingly references REDRUM, the iconic slogan from The Shining – a movie featuring another very doomed hotel. Excite those dark angels in you and go crazy!
Stella Donnelly approached topics like toxic masculinity, power imbalances in relationships and the workplace, as well as institutional racism, through snippets of personal experience and social observation in her debut album Beware of the Dogs – especially with tunes like Boys Will Be Boys. This second album is more focused on acceptance and brighter places, even if almost all it deals in gloomy atmospheres. It’s like Belle & Sebastian and Acid House Kings found some peace and decided to take Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker on a reflecting trip.
Donnelly goes both calmer, and darker. Almost like Björk on her future album Fossora (reflecting on losing her mother in 2018), she turns to deeply personal stories – like on the devastating piano track Oh My My My chronicling the passing of her grandmother. The Western Australian artist is back, wearing her heart on her sleeve, and it’s bound to be a deeply raw, human experience. Just feel and cry and finally smile! You are flooded with everything Life can do to you.
Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon shares first single as Lolahol and we’re a bit confused. But we shouldn’t be. The tumultuous Pop production is immaculate in my book, a total fit for this new release on Chemical X, the label owned by New York experimental artist Alexandra Drewchin – aka Eartheater.
I don’t have a specific goal. I probably should. I have a very specific sense of style, and I’m interested in aesthetics, so I like to incorporate all those parts of myself into my projects, Ciccone declared on an Interview feature back in October last year. I’ve always been a big House and Techno person, ever since I was young. That explains everything we hear and see here. The beats weirdly reminds me of D’eon’s LP released in 2012 on Hippos In Tanks. I simply can’t resist witty Electro, Synth-Pop.
Accidentally brought to the surface by Tik Tok, bringing Eiffel 65 back from 1998. You can’t beat the ’90s, no matter how hard you try. Versions of this circulated since Ultra Miami 2017, but now was just the perfect time to return to it… After a snippet of their song went viral on the social media platform, racking up an impressive 500 million views, David Guetta and Bebe Rexha officially released I’m Good (Blue).
I have no idea how it made it to TikTok but I love it!, Rexha said. It’s nostalgic to when I was younger… Listening to Eiffel 65’s original song and it was just a fun record that we put together naturally. Now all that remains is for Eiffel 65 themselves to make their comeback!
I’m honestly a bit tired with this kind of instrumental and the whole vibe. We heard it before exactly one year ago in Elton’s collaboration with PNAU and Dua Lipa for the Cold Heart of Sacrifice remix. Summery and dance-y. But still… I was just expecting MORE from the comeback of the one and only Britney Spears. Elton was really encouraging during all this hard road of returning to the public eye. That’s immense. But I barely hear Britney here and there’s something in this tune that leaves me unsatisfied.
I wish there were more passages of her singing in the foreground. It makes me happy to see our very own Romanian Șerban Ghenea mixing this, but I am left with the general feeling of I want more. The song combines renditions from John’s songs Tiny Dancer (1971), The One (1992), and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart (1976). Probably being too harsh for a track where she is just a guest artist, so let’s just wait for a new album from her. Sometime next year? Let us hope.
