Bigsound 2022 Spotlight Playlist

Bigsound is Australia’s leading new music festival and conference, with a massive lineup comprised of emerging musicians, as well as talks aimed at solving today’s big issues and shaping the future of music. Bigsound has been the launching pad for innovative acts like Flume and Courtney Barnett, and the 2022 edition will feature performances from Budjerah, Ashwarya, Alter Boy, Mia Wray, BLOODMOON and Woodes, as well as conversations with Internet sensation Rebecca Black and activist Tarana Burke.

We have compiled a playlist of our favorite artists playing at this year’s Bigsound, which will take place from 6-9 September in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. The lineup is incredibly diverse and exciting, and we’ve discovered a lot of promising acts to follow over the years to come. We recommend you just dig in and settle on something you like – Bigsound, just like SXSW, aims to bring attention to rising artists, but you might be familiar to a few of them already, maybe because of our monthly playlists.

If you do want to know more before you give it a spin, here’s a short description of what you will find in our playlist: cutting-edge electronica (Alter Boy, BLOODMOON, LÂLKA, Memphis LK, Skeleten), alt-pop (Mvlholland), country and country-pop (Melanie Dyer, The Buckleys), R&B and electronic R&B (Ashwarya, Queen P, BOY SODA), hip-hop (AGUNG MANGO, Church & AP, ZPLUTO), house and techno (dameeeela, Eluize), electro-pop (Woodes, Evie Irie, Eilish Gilligan, Greta Stanley), disco (WIIGZ), pop-punk (Waxflower), rock (Bones and Jones), indie rock (EGOISM, Sarah Wolfe, Teenage Joans, Jess Day, Platonic Sex, Phoebe Go, Ghost Care), hyperpop (cookii, Holliday Howe), punk (VOIID), hardcore (Future Static) and a heartbreaking closer from the inimitable flowerkid.

We hope you enjoy our Bigsound 2022 playlist (we’ll make more and provide coverage for similar festivals this year). Which is this year’s Bigsound act you’re looking forward to seeing the most? You can leave your comments below.
